Figtree House was built in 1994 on a property purchased from the Montpelier Plantation Inn. It is designed as a traditional Caribbean country house with large rooms, tall ceilings, and tiled floors. All rooms have direct access to the sheltered pool and patio area, thus creating an indoor/outdoor living space with cross breezes that keep the house cool all year round. Extensive outside galleries protect the indoors from glare and sudden rain showers and provide lounging spaces with splendid views over the pool, the mountainside and the ocean at a distance.
The entry foyer off the front porch is light and airy with rows of glass windows overhead as well as wooden louvered shutters in traditional Caribbean style. The furnishings include some antiques and oriental rugs. Indirect wall lighting is set off by traditional fretwork. The living room wing comes off the foyer as does the bedroom wing, the two wings forming an L surrounding the patio and pool area.

The Living Room Leads To The Dining Area
|
Entering the living room from the foyer we see a suite of rooms extending through the dining room to the kitchen and the porch. Two mahogany French doors lead out to the patio/pool area. Relaxing in the comfortably furnished living, room guests may enjoy Cable TV, a CD player with an extensive classical CD collection, and the owners’ many books. The room is always cool; it is cross ventilated and has a tall cathedral ceiling with two ceiling fans. The formal dining room doubles as library and opens out to the porch. The table seats ten people when it is fully extended.
The porch affords a view of the pool, the sloping gardens, and the ocean at a distance. Occasionally, guests enjoy the stunning show of the night blooming scirrus. This spot is ideal for leisurely breakfasts, pool side family fun, quiet reading or lively parties. It has a pass through to the kitchen which is large and well equipped with a refrigerator, range, conventional and microwave ovens and a Cuisinart as well as all needed pots, china, and linens.
